bremenports cooperates with Wismar University of Applied Sciences Published on 25 March 2020

Trade and logistics are among the largest economic sectors worldwide. Just the current crisis shows that retail and logistics have to react quickly to global challenges. At the same time, the crisis is also an impulse to think about the long-term structure of supply chains. The industry is facing new challenges and needs highly qualified managers. With the new online MBA course International Logistics and Trade, professionals from all over the world will be able to prepare themselves for these challenges. In the format of distance learning, the MBA consistently uses the possibilities of e-learning.

Trade and logistics are facing change – the challenges are becoming increasingly complex and must be overcome. Digitisation creates new opportunities, networking is becoming more intensive, markets and trade flows are shifting. Climate change is also massively increasing the pressure to innovate. With the part-time MBA International Logistics and Trade, WINGS, the distance learning provider at Wismar University of Applied Sciences, prepares people with experience in the industry for these changes in an optimal way. It is aimed at specialists and managers who, for example, are seeking a job as a Business Development Manager, Supply Chain Manager or Manager of Strategic and International Affairs.

The MBA focuses on the complex interrelationships between Global Trade, Society and the Environment, International General & Strategic Management, International Economics, Trade Finance, International Supply Chain Management, Data Analytics and Statistics in Information Systems, Business Processes and New Business Models as well as Transition and Change Management. The focus is always on a practice-oriented approach. As infrastructure manager of the world ports of Bremen and Bremerhaven, bremenports brings its first-hand expertise to the teaching. “Anyone who wants to enter management in the trade and logistics sector needs years of experience in the industry and sound specialist knowledge,” says Robert Howe, Managing Director of bremenports. “Together with WINGS, a renowned distance learning provider, we have designed the first internationally oriented distance learning courses for the logistics industry.”

What makes the new MBA International Logistics and Trade so special: It is international in its alignment, it sits at the interface between trade and logistics, it is in English and can be studied worldwide. “For the first time, experienced industry professionals from Europe, Asia and Latin America, for example, can study together in a study group using the online campus and study app,” says course director Professor Dr Sönke Reise about the flexible online concept. Internationally experienced professors and lecturers from Germany, Austria, Italy and India convey the teaching content via video lectures and live tutorials. Once a semester, a joint workshop weekend is held. Students meet there to develop concepts and strategies together and exchange experiences. The workshops will take place in Berlin, Copenhagen and Barcelona, depending on the topic.

Upon successful completion, students are awarded the international university degree “Master of Business Administration (MBA)” from the University of Applied Sciences in Wismar. “With the industry-specific MBA, the students are optimally equipped for the international market and qualify for demanding management tasks,” said Reise. “Those who study internationally today have the very best prospects of making a career in one of the world’s largest industries.” The registration deadline for the winter semester 2020/21 is August 31st.
