The small chamber of the lock at Fischereihafen is currently undergoing comprehensive refurbishment and is therefore closed to shipping.
Renewal of the electromechanical drive systems of Fischereihafen lock began in April. The first construction phase dealt with the outer head of the lock. The present building will be demolished in the course of the modernisation process and the new building will be joined up to the existing flood barrier and close the gap in height. The new electromechanical drive systems will be housed on a flood-proof second level in the building in future. This will prevent flooding of the electric motors and the new gear units on the first level will also be protected against flooding. The refurbishment work will also involve renovation of the upper carriage rails. The second construction phase on the inner head is scheduled for 2023.
The construction work on the small chamber is expected to be concluded by the end of this year and shipping will again be able to pass through the 106.50-metre long and 10.55-metre wide lock without any problems.Refurbishment of the lock is expected to cost approx. EUR 750,000
