Our target is unambiguous: we intend to ensure the future of Bremen’s ports by opting for integrated, sustainable solutions which strike the right balance between economic, ecological and social considerations. We already committed ourselves to that principle years ago. Our route to becoming a sustainable port involves highly diverse factors: energy management and climate protection, maintaining the water depths and the effects of these measures, land use and biodiversity as well as environmentally friendly shipping are just some of the many “green logistics” activities implemented by bremenports.
The environmental experts at bremenports pursue the above target in a number of different ways: the central tasks of this department include planning the application processes for construction projects, procurement and the planning of compensation measures. Our team is also responsible for the development and maintenance of substitute sites created to compensate for various construction projects. The remit also includes the planning and construction of the diverse compensation measures. This work has led to impressive results: to date, bremenports has created compensation for sites amounting to a total of roughly 1400 hectares.
